It will be the second seminar looking at Spiritual Abuse.
This seminar looks at how churches can, sometimes inadvertently, be complicit in Spiritual Abuse, and how to be part of the solution.
What is Spiritual Abuse
The Australian Institute of Family Studies defines spiritual and religious abuse abuse as when a person uses spiritual or religious belief to hurt, scare or control someone.
Spiritual Abuse is complex and takes many forms including:
Misuse of the bible to excuse or minimise abuse; force someone to stay in a relationship; impose gender roles that are abusive or corecive.
Denying seomeone access to their faith
Ridiculing someones beliefs to undermine their identity
Using faith as a weapon
