Joyfully and with prayer the Coptic Orthodox Church was welcomed into membership at the opening worship preceding the General Council meeting of Queensland Churches Together, held in the Uniting Church Centre at Auchenflower, Brisbane, on Saturday 27 October, 2007.

The Coptic Orthodox Church has already been formally declared a member of QCT but had not yet been welcomed in this way. Bishop Brian Finnigan of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Brisbane led the service, and Father Anastasios Bozikis of the Greek Orthodox Church, who is Senior Vice-President of QCT, presided as Father David Mahrous of the Coptic Orthodox Church pledged his church's commitment to the aims of QCT. "Queensland Churches Together welcomes the  Coptic Orthodox Church as a new member with great joy and thanksgiving," Father Anastasios then proclaimed on behalf of all the members of QCT. "We look forward to journeying with you as fellow travellers on the road to Christian unity."

Father David Mahrous delivered the homily on behalf of His Grace Bishop Daniel, Bishop of the Coptic Orthodox Diocese of Sydney & Affiliated Regions (which include NSW, Queensland, Northern Territory, Japan, Thailand and Singapore).
