Award for Qld women peacemakers

The Queensland branch of the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF) has established these awards to commemorate WILPF’s 95th birthday.  The awards recognise the talents and dedication of women whose activities have promoted peace in the local, national and/or international arenas.  They are open to any woman who has lived in Queensland for a significant part of her life and who has made a lasting contribution to peace in one or more of the following ways:

  • Working towards disarmament and non-violent solution to international conflicts.
  • Promoting women’s and girls’ human rights.
  • Confronting any form of discrimination whether it be on the basis of race, gender or religious affiliation.
  • Helping to build peaceful communities.
  • Promoting economic justice.

Four Peace Women awards will be given in the following categories: 

  • Volunteer Community Work;
  • Business/Professional;
  • Government/NGO;
  • Arts or Sports. 

The closing date for nominations is 31 March 2010.
