QCT News

Dear friends

Burma is much on our minds and in our prayers this week. Today Tanya and I attended a peace march through the streets of Brisbane, led by members of the small Burmese community here. Quite a few church people were present. We hear there are other rallies taking place tomorrow and on Sunday. As Alistair Gee from the National Council of Churches in Australia (NCCA)-Christian World Service has reminded us, we must not remove our attention from Burma once the cameras are gone.

Tanya Richards, our Christian World Service colleague at QCT, is putting Alistair's injunction into practice, having just returned from an Ecumenical Leadership Training Course in Sri Lanka. Tanya visited an area in the South of Sri Lanka that was affected by the Tsunami of Boxing Day 2004. She has some stories to tell. Watch our website in the coming week for these.

One of the images from the rally today that sticks in my mind is that of a Buddhist nun and an elderly Catholic nun walking together under one umbrella to shield them from the sun.

May you find joy in unexpected encounters this week.
